You can tell I am still experimenting with different background colors. I test using yellow today. I sort of like it. It gives me a feeling of sunset as painting landscapes, so I call it "dusk".

"Green Vase' --- Sold

I guess this is my first time painting a purplish background. Many people have asked me why I use same background and same lighting all the time. Well, I don't have a good answer for this question. I must confess that I am too lazy to change, but I will do better, OK? I promise.

"Gardening Time"
I don't know the name of this flower. It is blooming in the bushes in my front yard. I like to paint flowers, but so far I have not figured out a controlled way to do it. My mind goes blank when I start. I simply follow the painting wants me to do. You know what, the painting process itself is my best teacher. It tells me what is needed. I just follow the order. If i don't give up, the painting will turn out OK at the end.

It is the most beautiful time in Texas now. If you have a choice, pack up and drive down, leave the cold and dreary mood behind. I saw this year's fresh bluebonnet at Rock Port TX last week. I took quite a few photos. This is my first small painting from a photo. Well, if you cannot escape the cold weather. Hanging in there my friend, the spring is just around the corner. I used to live at New Hampshire, and I know the feeling. I hope my painting can bring a small part of Texas to you.

Similar to the last painting, this one is also a color study of non-colored setup. The avocados are mainly black, but the subtle green and purple are very interesting.

A white mug on a piece of white cloth. That is it. Instead of doing a monochromatic value study, I really want this painting to show color. Oh, boy. I am in the world of ZEN. I don’t care to know “what is the sound of single hand clapping”, but I really want to know “what is the color of white”. I spent two days on this “Koan” painting. Am I enlightened?

"Are We Related?" --- Sold

I am working on the color relationship now. The colors of the three objects follow the spectral sequence. So they are related in terms of color change. Well, of course they are related. They all belong to the fruit family, Duh ... I don't know what I am talking about.

It is my second try of painting lilies. I felt more at ease now, and my brush strokes were more spontaneous.
