I love holidays. This long weekend makes it possible for me to paint daily. Many people asked me: how can you do so many things? You work full-time; have a family, and you still have time painting, teaching workshops, and managing an art business. Be honest to you, I CAN'T, but I try my best to use every fragment of time possible. At my day job, I do not go out for lunch, so I have some time to check emails and posting on my blog. I hardly watch any TV, and use my evening as much as possible. Weekends are luxurious. I really enjoy being a full time artist for a day or two. I am not ambitious and let thing happen naturally. Do I recommend my life style to others? Actually, NO. This fast paced modern life is very unhealthy. Life should be more relaxed, having more time for leisure. I am having this fast-food kind of life now in order to have the opposite in the future. So wish me luck.

Quang-

Something's happened to your work. Before it was fresh and liveley. Your work now has a serious or withdrawn feeling to it. I think your workshop with Sheri Magraw has turned your work around. I find that their paintings are beautiful but have an almost dark and depressing feel to them. Too many darks and dark backgrounds for me. What do you think? Has anyone else noticed the change in your work?

Hi Qiang: I LOVE this painting--the movement and the subtle color transitions are magical. And the design is lyrical. And to address your thoughts, Lawrence, I happen to be drawn more to the neutral/dark paintings of the masters than to modern colors. So manybe that is why I am drawn more to the more subtle paintings that use neutrals in a masterful way to build to the more saturated (in color) focal areas. I suppose we are all drawn to different color "moods." Qiang, I look so forward to participating in one of your workshops, but I am concerned that your life is so stressful. Please remember to "smell the roses."

You deserve to paint full time and only do that, I wish you the best with your self proclaimed, "fast food kind of life now," in order to live oppositely in the future. Your work is beautiful, whatever you have to do to create it now, is well worth it.

Qiang, you are an inspiration...juggling a full time job, a family and your artwork. I, too, am drawn to the darker work/mystery of the masters.

Thank you for sending the North Light Filters I ordered. I am anxious to try them out.

Paint on!

I love the dark--to me, something needs to add drama to a still life, and I think it's technically more difficult (perhaps because I haven't learned that way) to work with a majority of dark in the painting. This is a beautiful piece, Qiang.

i agree with mr chrapliwy that yr pics have gotten more somber recently, abt the time of the workshop you took but also with your upwelling frustration with yr 'fast food life' (a wonderful way to put it!)...still lovely work, tho! glad you've a plan to escape to a future more suited to pursuing the life you want!

Many have a lot of vibrant and color saturated objects in front of the "darkness". I like that contrast a lot.
