This painting is very similar to the one of my last post, but I went back to canvas again. I don't mean to confuse you. I really like the Masonite board better, but I have a pile of canvases not being used. So you will still see I paint on canvas a lot in the future. My general attitude toward painting materials is that: "Do not let the material issues restricting your art". I am constantly being asked what kinds or brands paint, brushes, media, and canvases I use. I provide answers according to what I use at that moment, but I may change at the next moment. There is no double that the property of paint and brushes play a very important part in a painting process. However, the artist him/herself is the one who determines if a painting works or not.

  1. Hi there- not sure if you remember me, but we met at the PSOA mixer in Austin back in June. I was very impressed with your work and have enjoyed following your blog! Keep up all the beautiful daily paintings!

  2. I have followed your paintings for a couple of years and am always admiring your economy of brush strokes and glowing still lifes. I also continue to be amazed at how prolific you while working at another career AND conduct workshops on top of that!

I find your last post about your observations of the differences of painting on board vs canvas a confirmation on my own recent discoveries. I became very accustomed with working on board, but struggled with the texture of canvas. On my last try at canvas I was finally getting the result I wanted by using the paint much thicker than I do on board. I was so excited that I went out and bought quite a few new small canvases to work on. It seems that our painting "experiments" have come to the same conclusions but in the opposite order. Thanks for sharing your work and life with us "fans".
