Today, I want to share another part of my life with you. I have been sentenced to 10 days isolation. Starting from June 19 to June 20, I will be at a small town called Kaufman, TX. I have to hand in all my electronics include my phone and computer. Of course there is no Internet for me. Even worse, I will be not allowed to talk for these 10 days. There will be no dinner served for me during this time. Difficult work will start from 4:30 every morning. Painting? Just don't think about it.
Nobody has forced me to do it. The sentence was given by myself. What am I doing? Well, I am attending a 10-day Vipassana meditation course. Why am I doing this? Because I am crazy.
Vipassana is a Sanskrit word means "seeing things as they really are", In these 10 days, we will sit and observe our body/mind and see what is really going on, like a scientist observing the world objectively. We will also learn how to deal with ourselves, and how to live in the world. It is a highly spiritual art of living. However, I must say this spiritual practice is not religious, because there is no faith involved in it. When a scientist observing a star through a telescope, he/she sees it no matter what. So everybody can participate and learn.
That sounds awesome! I'll be interested to hear all about your experience!
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great idea. 10 days is a long time to do this but I don't think your crazy. I will say this though, it won't be easy. I was listening to a CD by Brian Tracy and he suggests sitting in a room on your own for a few hours at least a couple of times a week. Not reading, not talking, not doing anything other than being on your own in a room just sitting still and meditating. He says it is when people really get to know themselves and ideas start to come into the mind that they had never thought about before. Sometimes those ideas can be really life changing. Listening to our mind and body and really getting to know our spiritual side at a deep level in my opinion is always a good thing. I hope you enjoy your meditation course and that you come back refreshed and have learned a lot from the experience.
ReplyDeletePainting is like meditation. Slowing the eye like slowing the mind. Both can be hard work. :-)
ReplyDeleteI had enrolled for this course years ago with my Dad, but I couldnt go for some reason...he went.
ReplyDeleteAnd it surely helped him a lot
All the best :)
Good for you! I went to one in WA and really enjoyed it. It clears your head and helps not to pay attention to "problems" that our mind made up. You'll learn how to control it. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHi Qiang - Don't worry about being crazy - the sensitivity of being an artist also intensifies our receptivity to all the negative energy in the world: the news, the environment, wireless transmissions, electrical transmissions. You just feel all of this more than others, because the same sensitivity that allows you to be lovely painter also allows you to absorb all the other stuff too. I have dealt with this. I have been very inspired by you and your paintings. I agree with and endorse your Vipasanna meditation. In addition, I have some very effective techniques for dealing with all of the above and would be happy to offer you a free session if you are interested: www.deborahbird.com. Blessings for all you have given us.
