I did this gallery level painting over the weekend. Somehow recently, I really enjoy using the complete dark background. The glowing warm colors show my passion about life. As a matter of fact, my life lately is rather chaotic. I got disorientated with my multi-tasking business, and tried my best to manage all aspects to make sure nothing was falling apart. Oh boy! It is rather hard. But I am hanging in there. I like what Beethoven had said: “I will seize Fate by the throat. It will not wholly conquer me! Oh, how beautiful it is to live - and live a thousand times over!”
I will go to Scottsdale, AZ this Thursday, and attend this year’s OPA National.
This is a beautiful piece, Qiang. Congratulations on OPA National and have a GREAT time at the opening!!!!
ReplyDeletethis has such a great mood with the glow and black background..love the Beethoven quote
ReplyDeleteCantaloupe Afterglow in my mind now...
ReplyDeleteDear Master,
ReplyDeletecongratulations, I particularly like the light in this painting! I read somewhere that you use a light bulb with blue foil in front of it for painting. The light in this painting seems warmer though. Did you use a source of another color, or just paint other colors from imagination?
kind regards

This is outstanding! The glow gives the painting such a warm, comforting and welcoming feel. Excellent, excellent. And yes, great Beethoven quote! The play 33 Variations, which is about Beethoven, focuses on this aspect of his attitude and if you ever get the chance to see it you must. It's almost as excellent as your work ;)
ReplyDeleteYou've captured such dramatic light . Its so lovely and captivating! It seduced me right in.
ReplyDeleteWow!
Stunning. I agree the dark background just draws you into the glow of the painting. Good luck in AZ.
ReplyDeleteAs a fan, I am so glad you are managing to hang in there! This piece is beautiful. Enjoy and good luck in AZ!
ReplyDeleteLove your stunning values and obvious focal point and the way the light bounces off objects. Stunning. Congrats on the big awards too!
ReplyDeleteyes, a wonderful painting. I like the fact that the strength of color everywhere, still doesn't complete with that perfect cantalope slice!
ReplyDeleteyes you are right about the color. When I'm painting from observation, I tend to desaturate color as the form moves into the shadow, giving a greyish look. I'd love to hear some of the painter's thoughts on color in observational painting!...
ReplyDeleteSo much to like about this painting! Your colors against the dark background is dramatic and the cantaloupe just shines. It is a gorgeous painting.
ReplyDeleteOPA National - congratulations!
The Beethoven quote is on target and inspiring - as you are!
I have admired your dramatic dark backgrounds for some time now. Would you be willing to share color combinations you use to get this richness?
ReplyDeletejust found your blog, your art is absolutely beautiful. You capture the light perfectly. Glad I found you I look forward to more paintings.
