Click Here to BidAfter I visited Richard Schmid a month ago. I had been thinking about his approaches a lot. I like the way he uses the transparent wish that gives the painting a spontaneous look. The balance between unfinished seeing-throughs and layered detail depiction, and the contrast of sharp/soft edges really makes his style outstanding. I want to learn this approach and convert it into part of mine. My today’s painting is Schmidish I think. How do you like it? I don’t have much of leaves in the design. I start to working on the white drape. You will see more my drapery studies in the coming days.

ReplyDeleteI love your work and especially love to read what you have to say about your daily paintings. However, this one is over-the-top gorgeous! The contrast between the red cup and the white cloth is breath-taking. This is one of my all time favorites.

ReplyDeleteHello Qiang! This painting very successfully captures those Schmidt-like characteristics of spontaneity and juxtaposition on transparent and opaque passages. I love the way that the drapery just falls away as it recedes from the center of interest (drops off the table. I want to take this opportunity to let you know how much I admire the way that you set tasks for yourself that advance your skills. I wish I had your focus and discipline!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is a wonderful example of learning from and adapting elements from another artist and making it your own without compromising your own style. The element that is added I think is found in the term "sophistication". The way that you let that cloth just fade away and the confident loose and brushy background has added an extra layer to your style. An that red cup! Bravo!
