"Cantaloupe Glow"

I did this gallery level painting over the weekend. Somehow recently, I really enjoy using the complete dark background. The glowing warm colors show my passion about life. As a matter of fact, my life lately is rather chaotic. I got disorientated with my multi-tasking business, and tried my best to manage all aspects to make sure nothing was falling apart. Oh boy! It is rather hard. But I am hanging in there. I like what Beethoven had said: “I will seize Fate by the throat. It will not wholly conquer me! Oh, how beautiful it is to live - and live a thousand times over!”

I will go to Scottsdale, AZ this Thursday, and attend this year’s OPA National.

  4. Dear Master,

congratulations, I particularly like the light in this painting! I read somewhere that you use a light bulb with blue foil in front of it for painting. The light in this painting seems warmer though. Did you use a source of another color, or just paint other colors from imagination?

    kind regards

  5. This is outstanding! The glow gives the painting such a warm, comforting and welcoming feel. Excellent, excellent. And yes, great Beethoven quote! The play 33 Variations, which is about Beethoven, focuses on this aspect of his attitude and if you ever get the chance to see it you must. It's almost as excellent as your work ;)

  10. yes, a wonderful painting. I like the fact that the strength of color everywhere, still doesn't complete with that perfect cantalope slice!

  11. yes you are right about the color. When I'm painting from observation, I tend to desaturate color as the form moves into the shadow, giving a greyish look. I'd love to hear some of the painter's thoughts on color in observational painting!...
