You can tell I am still experimenting with different background colors. I test using yellow today. I sort of like it. It gives me a feeling of sunset as painting landscapes, so I call it "dusk".
I love how the cool, gray pitcher sets in front of the warm, bright background. Isn't that breaking the rules! --- but is sure works. And that red rose bud sets up the painting just beautifully.
i am really enjoying these new lighter backgrounds. your paintings have a brighter, early morning quality to them, very appealing. i like that you are stretching yourself.
I hate to be the only naysayer, but I like your originals with the dark background. Your earlier works were classic. The brighter color backgrounds are okay for experimention and freedom of expression and all that, but the classic backgrounds will stand the test of time. This is just my opinion. I think you do great work. Just not a fan of the brighter works.
Enjoyed meeting & talking with you at the Carol Marine & Karin Jurick workshop. Love your experminting with different color combinations.

ReplyDeleteOooh, these color combinations are indeed compelling. I love the end result. Very calm yet passionate.

ReplyDeleteI think the different colour backgrounds work really well. Keep experimenting, I say! This is a beautiful painting.
