"Jove Wang's 10-day Big Painting Workshop"
I want to use this opportunity to introduce a very special workshop I will provide in 2019. Master artist Jove Wang will come to Austin again next year and teach a 10-day Big Painting workshop. This workshop is designed for advanced artists who want seriously to bring their art to higher level by creating large scale oil paintings. During the 10-day workshop period, students will learn how to develop large format art from multiple reference photographs and preliminary drawings and color sketches. In order to bring the utmost benefit to students, Jove Wang needs to evaluate the skill level of all applicants and provide appropriate recommendations. Please visit Jove Wang 10-day workshop webpage to get more detailed information. Jove and I are looking forward to working with you and helping you to develop your art to a higher level.

"Demo in Austin 2018 4" --- Sold
Nowadays, there are too much going on. We are information overloaded. We are over too busy. I felt I am a machine. Doing one thing after another. I can only react mechanically. In this rat race kind of life, can we still generate good art? I doubt it. I am mindful about it. I know my demos are pretty much the same. It serves its purpose in workshops. My art is still going. I have hope.

"Demo in Austin 2018 3" --- Sold
When I post my painting, I write spontaneously what is in my mind. However recently my mind is blank. I feel I start to have Alzheimer's. So we just let the painting talk visually. This is the third demo I did on my Austin workshop.

"Copper Kettle and Green Apple"
I am happy to see my color scheme change in paintings. I use to use value dominantly to create the drama for my art. Now I tend to establish dominant color tones for my paintings. I get more chances using higher chroma colors in large areas. I am in the transition from a tonalist to a colorist. Can you believe I did not use ultramarine blue in this painting?

"Tuscany in Green"
The reason I painted this one is that I want to explore the world of color in a sense of design. I deliberately deviated from the color accuracy of realistic landscape. I want to compose the colors of this painting as a piece of music. The painting has a strong dominated color tone, which is green. All the colors are far away from real scene. All the colors on the painting are artificial. But I kept the color relationships. By varying the temperature of all the greens, I presented the depth and local colors of the trees, houses, and hills. We all know green is a difficult color to use. My old trick was to indicate greens without using green. However this time I deliberately using a lot of pure green, but I don't want the greens look garish. I hope to create a strong sense of color harmony.

"Present Moment" --- Sold
I sent this painting to this year's Oil Painters of America National Exhibition. I am very happy to know that this painting has been sold on the show. Since my nowadays major art activity is teaching workshops, I have not spent enough time and effort in improving my own art. So please be patient with me. I feel this kind of situation will still last for a few more years. I will try my best to bring my best work to the shows, but you may not see much of progress. I can only grow in baby steps.

"Demo at Ponte Vedra Beach 2018 4" --- Sold
Putting figures into a landscape painting is exciting, but I have not done this much. This demo painting was done with a photo I took a couple of years ago in Xidi China. I thought I might not have enough time to finish, but it turned out all right. I may do more paintings like this in the future.

"Demo at Ponte Vedra Beach 2018 1" -- Sold
This is another palm tree demo. I did this at Ponte Vedra Beach Florida.
Thanks to so many friends responded to my last post. I understand there are issues we should not openly talk about, but have we noticed those issues are all important issues. Well, let paint more palm trees. because all those trees are supporting each other and forms a beautiful scene, and it helps us to make a beautiful painting.

"Demo at Ft Lauderdale 2018 3" --- Sold
When I was at Ft Lauderdale, it was just after the Parkland high school shooting. It was about 20 mi away from where I teach. I just simply can not understand that the current US government does not do anything on gun control. I thought we live in a civilized country. We have long passed the barbaric time that everybody have to bear arms to protect themselves. It was shocking that the government considers giving teacher guns is a good idea to make school safer. It is so sad to see Washington is not willing to do anything on gun control to protect its own citizens, especially children. The problem is the guns themselves, people can get crazy by zillions of ways. If they can not get the mass destructive weapons, the damage can be a way less. Why common sense is so difficult to grab for our "leaders"?

"Demo at Ft Lauderdale 2018 2" --- Sold
I painted this demo from a photo I took at Xidi China. The photo showed a very busy scene, I simplified it significantly. The painting has demonstrated a good play of opacity vs transparency. The brushwork has shown a good spontaneity. The color needs some work. It is over simplified.

"Demo at Ft Lauderdale 2018 1" --- Sold
In February, I taught two landscape workshops. Compared with my still life painting, my landscapes still need more development. I am learning while I am teaching. It is a little scary experimenting in front of students. Well, sometime, there is not much choice.

"Demo at Lindale 2018 3" --- Sold
I feel I am slowing down quite a bit in everything. I am still posting paintings I did two months ago. In this modern life, we are much busier than ever before. Everything is getting more and more complicated. We are more and more controlled by the digital technology. I really long for the good old days.

"Egg Plants and Turnip"
I did a small daily painting yesterday. Life is cyclic. My art career started with doing small paintings daily. Then I have tried all other directions. Now, I am coming back to it. I feel the most tangible way to run your own art business is still selling small paintings on the internet. Life gets more complicated, painting time is harder to come by. Very few artists can survive if they do not have a rich family. So down to earth, and face the reality. As a beginner artist, do small, and learn a lot.

Where is Paris?
I want to tell you a funny story. I am preparing for my trip to Europe, and I want to check where we will go. It happens to be the day that I had a major internet failure in my house. I was not able to check Google maps online. My wife is am AAA member. Just like the good old days, she went and got me a paper map of France from the local AAA office. I spread it wide open in front of me and try to find Paris. I searched and searched on this giant map for a long time, but lo and behold, I just simply CAN'T FIND PARIS, the capital of France... I gave up, felt so embarrassed . In the evening I had dinner with a couple of my friends. I asked one of them this stupid question: Where is Paris? He showed me on his phone. Yes, I saw it. Paris is in upper middle of France. After I got home, I went to my map of France again. You know what I still CAN NOT find it!!! .... I was so confused. ... Suddenly, I realized what is going on. Here is my answer:
Where is Paris? .... IT IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP.
No matter how stupid I am, I still paint and willing to share. If you are interested to see how I paint, please join us in Paris and Tuscany. We still have a few openings. Please check my website to sign up.
