"Bird Feed" --- Sold

You might wonder what the white object is at the front. It is a bird feed, which is used to hold a small amount of food for birds in a cage. I got it from my mother-in-law. It works so well for still life compositions.

My Still Life Demonstration

Yesterday I gave my first painting demonstration and this is my demo piece. This event was organized by a local artists group: Plein Air Austin. The demo was performed at the Windberg Art Center in Georgetown Texas. I want to thank both PAA and the Windberg Art Center to make this activity possible.

Today I have reached the milestone: 100 posts on my blog. Since I started this blog in January, I have received enormous amount of help and support. At this moment, I want to express my sincere appreciation to my collectors for your patronage. I want to thank my artist friends who have commented on my paintings. I didn’t get a chance to response to you all, but your messages were well received. I feel really great to have this opportunity on-line to share my art with you, and sincerely hope that my effort can bring you happiness.

"Red Rose" --- Sold

We planted rose bushes in the spring, but didn’t realize they were too close to the AC compressor. The Texas summer comes. The high temperature plus more heat from the AC are all dumped on the plant. But to my surprise, they grew well and bloomed. The flowers are so beautiful. I must paint them.

For a while, I put a lot of vibrant colors on my paintings, but I am testing more subtle colors lately. After having too much Texas BBQ, I want to have some green tea.

"Apple Solo" --- Sold

This is another my "New Age" painting. Thank you all for so many great comments on my blog. We had a wonderful communication going on. I think that is the art all about. I will keep exploring my potential. At the mean time, I will have my sanity checked all the time. Now my still life stand has been fixed. It is more flexible, and I have more freedom.

"Three Pots" --- Sold

My still life stand collapsed accidentally yesterday. I had to hack a setup to paint. This accident was a good thing actually. It forced me coming out of my comfort zone and trying compositions I never did before. How do you like this one?

"Delicate Glass" --- Sold

Painting glass is so exciting. I was amazed the potential that the oil color can present. It is such a enjoyment to see light traveling through the refractive index modulated space (I mean class).

I do not have any new painting to post this week. This one is one of my old paintings. I will try to do better next week.

Finally, I find some paints and brushes, and this is my first painting I did in Beijing, China. The conditions are not ideal here, but I try my best to manage it.

Stay in Beijing

This photo shows the place I stay in Beijing. I am with my parents. They have a two bedroom apartment (on the left of the photo). The total area is about 700 square feet, but it costs 936,000 yuan or $123,000. I see shocking contrasts everywhere, just like the fast development in the background of the image and rundown living conditions of average citizens.

My father is getting better. He is able to walk around a little. Since I posted my father’s portrait on my blog, I have received so many friends’ emails. I am really touched. With my limited English, I can’t say enough to thank you. I would like express my deep appreciation from the bottom of my heart.
