"Red Delicious" --- Sold

This is my first high key painting. Generally, I like to keep my background dark to allow the center of focus get the spot light. Using light background, I thought it might weaken the center. So I broke my rules with this one, but I kind of like the result. What do you think?

I like it and I think it's great to break out and change stuff. You're an awesome painter/draftsman and you make it work. You ROCK Qiang!

It's super! Great composition and colour combination. Definitely worth breaking the rules! And the center is not at all weakened because you managed to keep the spotlight on it anyway.

This painting is a stand out! It really shines, and I think the paler background makes the color sparkle. I am naturally drawn to lighter backgrounds maybe because of its rarity in still life. Beautiful painting!

I think the contrast with the intense red of the apples helps focus the painting. A darker background would sink the deeper tones in the apples. With this lighter background you get a real sense of the volume and shape of the subject and an appreciation for their colour.

The light background works due to the muted contrasting greens. The deliberate brushstrokes make the apples pop. From what I have seen sp far, whatever you do, you can't go wrong!

This one is simply beautiful. There's still strong value contrast and the chroma(+compliment) difference is what attracts me.
